Obituary: Sir Leslie Fielding

Sir Leslie Fielding, pictured with his wife Dr Sally Harvey Sir Leslie Fielding, 2011 Sir Leslie Fielding, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sussex from 1987 to 1992, died peacefully on Thursday 4 March after a short illness. Sir Leslie served as a diplomat for much of his life, entering the UK Foreign Service in 1956. He went on to serve in Tehran, Singapore, Phnom Penh and Paris – introducing ballroom and disco to embassy circles along the way. He also held London-based roles in the Western Organisations Department and in the Planning Staff. A strong supporter of the EU, he joined the Commission of the European Communities in Brussels in 1973, serving as the EC Ambassador in Tokyo from 1978 to 1982. He returned to Brussels to work as Director General for External Relations at the Commission from 1982 to 1987. For some years he also held positions as non-executive director of IBM (Europe) and a Special Adviser to Panasonic (Europe).

Thomas “Tom” J. Gordon 1929 - 2021 Thomas “Tom” J. Gordon GREELEY, Colo. Thomas “Tom” J. Gordon, 91, of Greeley, passed away Jan. 8, 2021, at his home in Greeley. Tom was born June 22, 1929 in Mountain View, Okla., to Thomas J. and Etta (Murray) Gordon. He married Wynona Webb on Oct. 7, 1951 in Annapolis, Maryland. They were married for 66 years. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors’ degree in Chemistry. Tom moved to Great Bend, Kan., in 1954. He was the founder and President of Gordon Lab, Inc., an oilfield chemical company, for about 25 years. He was a member and officer of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, and member of the Board of Directors of the American Petroleum Institute, the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and President of the Great Bend County Club. Network Norfolk : Norfolk chaplain calls for 24-hour NHS prayer vigil

Norfolk health chaplain to lead online prayer  Rev Helen Garrard, Lead Chaplain for Norfolk Community Health and Care is holding a weekly two-hour online prayer meeting following on from a 24-hour prayer vigil for all NHS acute and community services and other care providers. Talking from her own, frontline experience, Helen said: “The situation nationally has been deteriorating for many weeks with increasing cases of Covid-19 arising from a newer, highly transmissible variant. In Norfolk, all three acute hospitals, the community hospitals, care and residential homes and community nursing and care teams are under a strain which has not been experienced previously.

RUBY AMOS Formerly of Stonehouse and Nailsworth, died peacefully on 26th November, 2020 at The Old Vicarage, Frampton-on-Severn, aged 88 years, following a long battle with dementia. She was the widow of Cliff Amos and a much-loved mother to John and Carissa, Viv and Annie, Clive and Julie and Paul and Julie. She was dearly loved by all her many grandchildren. Unfortunately, due to her illness, she missed out on the joy of spending time with her many great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed. The funeral will take place on 15th December at 1.30 pm and will be held at Stonehouse Methodist Church, followed by interment at St. Cyr’s Church, Stonehouse. Due to the current restrictions, the numbers attending will be limited.
