After much hard work, dedication and anticipation, Pace University’s documentary film team – PaceDocs – recently premiered Bee Aware , a film focusing on the environmental threats facing one of the most important pollinators for humankind. The film aptly debuted online on Earth Day as it spotlights the vital role bees play in our food supply; their importance to the environment; and some of the challenges facing the insect and the environment.
“The PaceDocs team, under the guidance of Professor Maria Luskay, always does remarkable work. This year, they did something extraordinary, persevering through a pandemic to create a truly inspiring, thought-provoking, and poignant documentary.” Marvin Krislov, president of Pace University.
Plan Bee THREE charities have been given £500 each for their ongoing work within the community. Jack’s Supermarket, on Four Acre Lane, part of the Tesco family, launched its Jack’s Supports scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes. Usually, four charities are selected to receive £250, and voting units would be placed in store where shoppers could nominate one charity to receive an extra donation. However, as voting in store has closed due to social distancing measures, each selected charity will instead receive an increased donation of £500 to help those whose usual fundraising efforts may have been impacted by the pandemic.

Boris Johnson expressed a desire to change the law around genetically modified food on his first day in office THE London Government has been accused of breaking its own rules with its recently launched consultation on the introduction of genetically edited (GE) foods into the UK. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) consultation was launched on January 7 with a view to change the law around GE foods. Though the consultation is not UK-wide, the Internal Market Bill’s “non-discrimination clause” means that Scotland’s Government will be powerless to bar GE goods produced in England from being sold north of the Border.
