Odisha police on Monday seized around Rs 50 lakh of unaccounted cash near Tarakaja Chhak under Pipili police station in Puri district. The Pipili Assembly constituency is going to witness a bypoll on April 17.
Police detained two persons in connection with the incident and seized a motorcycle. Sources said during routine check on Monday afternoon near the Pipili check gate, police asked two persons riding a motorcycle to stop. But instead of stopping they sped away. Police chased them and seized the money from their possession. A ruling Biju Janata Dal delegation met the chief electoral officer and lodged a complaint about attempts by rival parties to influence voters by adopting unfair means.

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced projects worth Rs 68 crore for the development of Pipili and Delanga areas in Puri district on Tuesday drawing sharp criticism from the Opposition Congress and BJP as bypoll to Pipili Assembly constituency is likely to be announced shortly. The bypoll has been necessitated after the demise of former minister Pradeep Maharathy on October 4 last year.
Interacting with the people of the area through video-conference, the Chief Minister announced that as part of the centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi’s first visit to Odisha in 1921, the State government will set up model school at Beraboi in Delanga block which the Mahatma had visited later. He announced that a memorial on Gandhiji will also be set up at Beraboli. Gandhi had visited Beraboi in 1938 to attend an exhibition on agriculture.

BJD appoints new election observer for Pipili Assembly Constituency Post News Network
Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Thursday appointed Aul MLA Pratap Keshari Deb as Election Observer for Pipili Assembly Constituency.
BJD General Secretary of Media Affairs Manas Ranjan Mangaraj Thursday informed, “Shri Pratap Kesari Dev, MLA is hereby appointed as Election Observer of Biju Janata Dal (BJD))for Pipili Assembly Consituency with immediate effect.”
After the demise of BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy of Pipili constituency, a by-poll for the constituency was organised. The seven time MLA had succumbed to Covid-19, October 4. All three major parties of Odisha BJD, Congress and BJP have started preparations to grab a seat in the constituency.
