And residents or u. S. Interests, those interests are clearly impacted by the behavior of other countries. And the u. S. Tax base can be eroded not only by the behaviors of multinationals but by behavior of other governments. Thank you and thank you for the opportunity. Good to be here, don, thank you very much for this opportunity to speak about policy and reform. It seems to me ive seen this movie before, however. We all love to sit around and talk about policy. I will get to policy in a second. Let me just say while we talk about policy, our tax system is being slowly eroded at the level of administration. Doesnt matter what the rules are if you dont have people to enforce them. If you just take a wink, a quick look at whats happening to the intern Internal Revenue service, you would realize it doesnt matter what the rules are. Weve lost so many people the enforcement capability is diminished. Unless that gets rectified. Who cares about tax reform if we dont have a tax system. Sayin
Would still be meetings at the convention with the leading Party Officials and, you know, the candidate would meet with people and so it was a democratic process in the sense that candidate would meet with people. It was a democratic process in the sense there was consultation, deliberation and so forth, though ultimately the candidates decision. I think as its moved away from the convention beginning 1976, its been a process focused much more on the president ial candidate and the people around the president ial candidate. They still consult with party leaders, talk to capitol hill, talk to governors, solicit input. But ultimately the circle of people in the room when the decision is made tends to be the president ial candidate and a few people close to them. Im going to get our questioners ready, a few more questions and then turn to the audience again. Weve referred to, in terms of the convention, that we might have a different kind of year especially on the republican side. Weve ma
Make quickly is on the difference between the political and the legal and constitutional questions that were facing. I mean, the political agreement is a political agreement. Its not a constitution, as youve highlighted, there was a fiveyear term for the president. But in afghanistan, the reality is that people are often getting bogged down in whats legal and whats constitutional versus whats politically practical. And i think the latter is much more important to keep in mind in terms of finding solutions. Im going to take that as a comment rather than a question, but thank you for sharing. You want a Quick Response . Quickly. I knew i would face flack for that comment, and i appreciate all the arguments that omar has made and that youve made. But i still think its irresponsible not to raise this point. Its not an issue of its only related to afghanistan, but the idea of trying to recreate a political order based on the rule of law which you know will be violated right off the bat beca
Look ahead to a year from now. But will iraq look like quick theres a real possibility will have three de facto states. The official state dominated by the shia arabs in the south. The Islamic State or the isil state in syria and iraq and the very top of his kurdish entity in the north. How that function . It will function well. They will be at odds with each other. However another alternative will work to find a way to unify the countrys and then how golf course is to write to retake in the territory from the isil. Thats the best way, but its in trouble right now. You can see out the iraqi ambassadors comment that 4 10 eastern in todays washington journal site that with jeffrey anytime on her website that is cspan. Org. Booktv sat down with former secretary of state work with didnt discuss her new book, hard choices. You dont make peace with your friends. Make it with people who are your adversaries, who have killed those who care about your people are those who you are trying to prot
Keystone on any number of times when senator mcconnell has objected. Now, senator mcconnell will come to the floor and show a list like this when he ask has asked for votes on the Keystone Pipeline and senator reid has objected. And that is the truth of this congress. The saddest thing about this is, i have believed for over a year now that if we could actually get a vote, that we have the 60 votes to pass it. I have said that on any number of occasions. I believe we have the 60 votes to pass keystone. I believe that the coalition of oil and gas and energy and Manufacturing Companies that are very strong, with the coalition of the strongest labor unions and organizations that represent working people, and with the vote in this last election and the people of the United States states, mostly because of the people of the United States asking us to do our jobs, i on faith and with strong evidence that i have, but on faith in what is right, what is true and what is best, we have the 60 vot
