The Monroe County Department of Health, working with The College of the Florida Keys and others, will administer first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at numerous locations in the coming week.
On Monday, May 10, the vaccine will be available at the S.O.S. Foundationâs Stock Island Food Pantry from 4 to 6 p.m. The Food Pantry is located at 5640 Maloney Ave.
Interested individuals must show proof of age, but no appointment, identification or payment is required. Shots will be given to any unvaccinated adult on a first-come, first-served basis, according to event organizers.
Wednesday through Friday, doses will be available at Big Pine United Methodist Church, from noon to 8 p.m. Appointments are required and can be made at http://www. myvaccine.fl.gov.

SAN FRANCISCO A coalition of 70 Asian American community organizations, mainly in the San Francisco Bay Area, issued the following statement on Feb. 9.

We, the undersigned organizations, denounce violence against members of Asian American communities in San Francisco, Oakland, and the greater Bay Area. We stand in solidarity with victims, survivors, and families who have suffered loss and pain.
These violent assaults have made the especially difficult circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic even more painful. From our Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese elders to our youth, our Asian American communities are traumatized, afraid, and outraged during a time when we are also experiencing disproportionate impacts of the pandemic. These include mass unemployment, safety risks to frontline workers, insecure housing, the shuttering of our local small businesses, and a surge in anti-Asian racis

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Rev. Delbert J. King, retired United Methodist Pastor formerly of Bristolville and Braceville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at his home in Gainesville, Fla., from complications of Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia. He was 79.
He was born in Mesopotamia to Katie and Ernest King.
He grew up in Bristolville, then the family moved to Braceville where Delbert graduated from Braceville High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Rio Grande College (Ohio). After marrying the former Maureen Hoynos, they moved to Gainesville, Fla.. and he earned his Master of Divinity degree from the Chandler School of Theology, Emory University. He served many churches in the North Central Florida district of the United Methodist Church. He served on various communities in the district over the years. A memorable trip to the Holy Land with his daughter and pastor friend was the highpoint of his walk with the Lord.
