After Governor Inslee announced Tuesday that he is pausing any more phase rollbacks in Washington, at least for the next two weeks, Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier sent out a tweet expressing his unhappiness and saying that “treating different counties differently is not science.”
“Let’s be clear: Three weeks ago, I didn’t think Pierce County should be rolled back, and I don’t think Snohomish or King County should be rolled back yesterday,” Dammeier told KIRO Radio’s Gee and Ursula Show. “I think we should be focusing on moving forward and getting beyond the state of emergency and getting back to some semblance of normal for our community.”

May 5 Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier on Tuesday night shot down a narrowly passed County Council ordinance that would have given hazard pay to grocery store workers.
Council Democrats passed the ordinance along party lines in a 4-3 vote. It would have given grocery store workers in unincorporated Pierce County a $4 per hour raise to compensate them for being essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bill would have applied to grocery stores more than 10,000 square feet in size and stores over 85,000 square feet in size with 10,000 square feet or more of their sales floor area dedicated to groceries. Council staff estimated there are 18 to 20 grocery stores in unincorporated county that would have been affected by the ordinance.

An investigation confirms Pierce County is getting its share of COVID-19 vaccine.
“Pierce County is getting 100% of its pro rata doses from the state of Washington. This is clear, unequivocal fact, and anybody who says otherwise is simply wrong,” Gov. Jay Inslee said.
Nick Streuli, the governor’s external affairs officer, explained that the military, veterans’ hospitals, and some other providers that the federal government sends doses to are not required to report their vaccination rates to the state, which can make the numbers look skewed.
Inslee says no to Pierce County s request for more COVID-19 vaccine doses
News Tribune, Tacoma, Wash. 7 hrs ago Josephine Peterson, The News Tribune (Tacoma, Wash.)
Apr. 15 Gov. Jay Inslee has denied Pierce County s request to receive a boost in COVID-19 vaccines.
Inslee sent a letter Tuesday responding to Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier s request for 55,000 vaccine doses to catch up to the state average immunization rate.
The governor wrote there have been misunderstandings and misrepresentations about the vaccine allocations to Pierce County, but he also pointed out that the state has been giving more doses of vaccine than requested to the county in recent weeks.
