Chef Cesar Zapata and Aniece Meinhold of Biscayne Boulevard’s beloved Phuc Yea and Pho Mo at Time Out Market are opening an arepera today (Friday) at Time Out. Arepitas Bar will serve up the quintessential Colombian staple dish in a variety of incarnations, both savory and sweet. The arepas themselves are scratch-made from a family recipe passed down from Zapata s grandmother. Variations include the Buffalo ($12) with buttermilk marinated fried chicken, sweet and tangy slaw, buffalo sauce, dill pickles, and blue cheese crumbles; the Brooklyn ($12) with smoked salmon, scallion cream cheese, pickled red onions, capers, and everything bagel spice; and La Carnuda ($14), with grilled steak, refried Colombian cargamanto (borlotti) beans, and tomato-onion salad.

“People can make a nice little crawl out of it if they want to,” Ani Meinhold tells New Times.
A co-owner at Phuc Yea, Meinhold spearheaded the project. MiMo is a quaint, casual little neighborhood and people should experience its diversity, she says. The vibe is not over-the-top or pretentious. Businesses are owned by locals and eateries offer more than meets the eye. People don’t even realize how many hidden gems there are in the area.

Yesterday afternoon, by a vote of 38 to 2, the Florida Senate passed Senate Bill 148, which would allow the sale of alcoholic beverages to-go. A parallel proposal, House Bill 329, is making its way through the Florida House of Representatives. If signed by the governor, the legislation will take effect on July 1.
Though the senate bill s passage is good news for many establishments, the pending law does come with restrictions.
Beverage purchases must be accompanied by a food order, and containers are limited in size to 32 ounces and must be sealed so as not to allow on-premises consumption. In addition, the beverage must be placed in a bag along with a dated receipt for both food and drinks.
