Allegra Angelo Sommelier for Vinya Wines 266 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables 305-203-4228 Sommelier Allegra Angelo has seemingly lived nine lives everywhere from the West Coast to the Northeast before settling in Miami. Since 2019, her love of wine, food, and community is on display at Vinya Wines, where she works alongside founder Nicholas Garcia as in-house sommelier. Angelo has been honing her craft for 15 years, developing more than 20 unique wine-and-spirit programs across the nation and working with local staples, including Mignonette, Stiltsville Fish Bar, and Café La Trova. Angelo s work doesn’t end in the dining room while serving as sommelier for La Mar and Mandarin Oriental, she worked wine harvests in Burgundy, Tuscany, and Spain. With most restaurants closed on Sundays, hotel dining rooms embraced the opportunity and turned the Sunday one-off into a weekly ritual, offering lavish meals paired with cocktails like the bloody mary and the mimosa.

As we (finally!) put a cap on 2020, Eater surveyed a group of friends, writers, and all around experts for their take on the past year. We asked them ten questions: from top standbys to top newcomers, from best meals to restaurants they’ve broken up with. All will be answered by the time we turn off the lights at the end of the 2020. Order Coquito for the Holidays Tis the holiday season and in Miami, that means celebrating with coquito. Those who attempt to describe the sweet and boozy drink to the uninitiated sometimes describe it as Puerto Rican eggnog. The recipe varies from household to household, but traditionally it s made with coconut cream, condensed milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and a healthy dose of rum. Though no Puerto Rican holiday gathering is complete without a few bottles of the sweet beverage, Miami has adopted coquito as its own, with makers adding flavors like guava, Nutella, and cinnamon to the mix. Others make vegan-friendly versions, while many keep it simple. There s no sugarcoating it; 2020 has been one hell of a ride. This time last year, not many would have predicted that we d be in the midst of a pandemic that would see us separated from loved ones come Christmas 2021.
Though we may not be able to go home for the holidays and the office parties do not translate to Zoom, this is still a time for celebrating friends and family. And perhaps this year more than any other, giving a gift is a way to show your appreciation for the people in your life. It doesn t matter if the presents are smaller; they re also more meaningful.
