The draft food safety law – with 11 chapters and 43 articles – was approved by the Senate on May 18, pending promulgation by the King.

Two markets in Phnom Penh – Phsar Thom Tuol Sangke, also known as Samhan market, in Russey Keo district and Boeung Trabek Plaza in Chamkarmon district – have been ordered shut for 14 days from April 19 to May 2 after vendors there tested positive for Covid-19.
Russey Keo district governor Chea Pisey said that over the last few days, vendors and residents around the areas had contracted Covid-19. The virus had spread quickly and to an alarming degree, which prompted restrictive measures to be urgently put in place to contain it.
