A few days before his 100th birthday, Dalmon E. Calcote pulled his riding lawnmower out of the shed to cut grass at his Philomath home on College Street. To his friends, he’s “Ed” and he could pass for a man of younger years.
While this year’s Philomath Frolic & Rodeo queen, 17-year-old Anya Hester, wears a big smile and enthusiastically waves to the crowd when riding in the rodeo arena or on the parade route, there is pain lingering just below the surface with thoughts of her beloved horse, “Philo.”
