Wiltshire’s Conservative party has released its manifesto entitled “Our plan to deliver for Wiltshire” ahead of the local elections in May. The party, which has held a majority on Wiltshire Council, says it has an excellent track record of delivering for residents. In its manifesto, the party promises fully-costed, deliverable plans to meet the challenges the next four years will bring. Philip Whitehead, the leader of Wiltshire Council laid out the plan: “Maintaining prudence and sound financial management, whilst supporting the most vulnerable in our communities, meeting the needs of a growing population with affordable housing, improving our roads and maintaining all our libraries and leisure centres.

SWINDON leaders have been paying tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh after his death at the age of 99. The union flag flying from Swindon Borough Council’s civic offices was lowered to half mast as a mark of respect after the news broke before lunchtime yesterday. And the council has made a book of condolences available on its website. It will be archived to show how the Prince’s death was marked in Swindon in future. South Swindon MP Robert Buckland said: “It is with very deep sadness that I learned of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.
The care facility is run by charity Hft, which has handed in its notice to Wiltshire Council. Families say they have been left in limbo over the uncertain future of the Rowde site, which is home to vulnerable adults. Wiltshire Council cabinet member for adult social care, Simon Jacobs, had expressed his personal desire for residents of Furlong Close to remain at the facility for the remainder of their lives, in a meeting last week. Mark Mangham, a Liberal Democrat candidate for Bromham, Rowde and Roundway, has been working alongside Save Furlong Close campaigners to seek clarification on the future of the facility.

A spokesman for the Lib Dems said that “long overdue” repairs to the Cleveland Bridge and the introduction of the CAZ “may well result in West Wiltshire residents suffering”.
