SIR – I was amused to learn that the green lobby feels Rowan Atkinson is partially to blame for the slowdown in consumers buying electric cars because he described them as lacking in soul (report, February 7). If consumers truly valued soul as well as function, then I doubt there would be many new cars on the road at all, as most look as if they plopped out of the same jelly mould. SIR – How sad that a conscientious, hard-working MP (and competent junior minister) like Mike Freer has been forced out by the mob (“Pro-Israeli Tory minister to quit after death threats”, report, February 1).
SIR – The Acropolis Museum in Athens already displays excellent replicas of the Elgin Marbles (Letters, November 30), along with originals from other parts of the frieze. For conservation reasons, none remain on the Parthenon itself and there can be no possibility of returning them there. It’s just an argument about which museum should house the originals, and which the replicas. Why change present arrangements?
