Chief executive of Hackney council to retire in May

Tim Shields has worked for the council for almost 19 years and is set to retire at the end of May and recruitment for his successor will begin soon. Working closely with local elected leaders, Tim has focused on improving services and helped transform a poorly performing local authority into one of the best in the country , a statement which was formally recognised in 2016 when Hackney was voted Council of the Past 20 Years at the 2016 Local Government Chronicle Awards. 

Data stolen in Hackney Council cyberattack published online

Experts supporting the council do not think the information - which is thought to be a limited set of data - has been published on a widely available public forum, or that it is accessible through internet search engines - but they are not 100 per cent sure. The dark web is part of the internet that is not visible to search engines and requires specific software, configurations or authorisation to access it.

First people in Hackney vaccinated for coronavirus

83-year-old Josephine Casey was the first person in Hackney to receive a coronavirus vaccine. - Credit: Sean Pollock An 83-year-old Haggerston woman just made history as the first Hackney resident to receive a coronavirus vaccine.  Doctors, nurses, volunteers and patients cheered as Josephine Casey, 83, became the first person in the borough to receive the vaccine on December 16.  Josephine moved to the area 30 years ago and previously worked as a council housing officer. She said: “I feel marvellous about getting the vaccine today. I ve been encouraging my friend to get it too – she eventually agreed and is coming tomorrow.   I think it is important for us to get the vaccine, we’ve got another few years left in us yet.
