A requiem was held on March 14 at Phat Tich pagoda in Vientiane in remembrance of the 64 soldiers who laid down their lives defending Gac Ma (Johnson South) Reef in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) in 1988.

The prayer for peace was held for overseas Vietnamese in Laos (Photo: VNA) At the event, participants prayed for a happy New Year and good health for their families and other loved ones, and development and prosperity for the homeland. Venerable Thich Minh Quang, Head of the coordinating board of Buddhism in Laos and Head monk of the Pagoda, urged Vietnamese monks, nuns and followers in Vientiane to further promote unity. On this occasion, donors presented 150 gifts to overseas Vietnamese in difficulty in Vientiane. Inaugurated in 2010, Phat Tich pagoda is among the popular destinations for overseas Vietnamese in Laos with architectural style imbued with Vietnamese spirituality. It not only serves the demand for religious practice of overseas Vietnamese, but also contributes to preserving and promoting Vietnam’s culture identities and values in the host country./.
