Petit Creek wildfire near Merritt now under control | iNFOnews | Thompson-Okanagan s News Source

The Petit Creek wildfire burning northwest of Merritt is now under control. The B.C. Wildfire Service reported today, April 23, the 100-hectare grassfire is under control and the cause is unknown. The fire was discovered this past Sunday. The wildfire service said strong winds reaching up to 60 km/hr are expected to sweep the Kamloops Fire Centre, today, April 23, and is urging members of the public and industry personnel to exercise extreme caution when conducting any outdoor burning and consider postponing burning if feasible. Wind can cause grass fires to spread very quickly, the wildfire service said yesterday. Anyone wishing to light a Category 3 open fire must obtain a burn registration number ahead of time by calling 1-888-797-1717. A burn registration number is not required to light a Category 2 open fire.
