Eskom’s suspended chief procurement officer (CPO), Solly Tshitangano, has been central to the scuppering of the past two meetings between the power utility and the parliamentary spending watchdog, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa).
Lawmakers twice decided that without Tshitangano they could not fully interrogate Eskom procurement deviations the subject of a meeting on 23 February and again on Wednesday.
Then, on the eve of Wednesday’s Scopa meeting, came Tshitangano’s correspondence claiming nepotism, irregular decision-making and contract manipulation by Eskom CEO André de Ruyter, addressed to Public Enterprises Director-General Kgathatso Tlhakudi, and copied to all Scopa members, the Auditor-General, the State Capture Commission and the National Treasury.

The Nigerian international aviation consultant and CEO of African Aviation Services, Nick Fadugba has been appointed to the interim board that would reposition South Africa Airways (SAA), the countryâs floundering national carrier.
The government of South Africa through the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) appointed Fadugba, Mr. Geoff Qhena, Mr. Peter Tshisevhe, Ms. June Crawford, Ms. Bembe Zwane and Prof. Edna van Harte, into an interim board to reposition SAA as the airline looks forward to a new beginning come 2021.
The constitution of the interim six-member SAA board would see to the restructuring of the airline for profitability and professionalism.

After Finance Minister Tito Mboweni announced a R10.5 billion bailout for SAA in October, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) has confirmed that it will pay three months outstanding salaries for June, July and August to South African Airways (SAA) employees.
The SAA employees – who have not been paid for eight months as the airline has been in business rescue since December 2019 – has been given until Thursday, 17 December 2020, to accept the department’s full and final settlement offer.
