By Chinedu Eze The Nigerian international aviation consultant and CEO of African Aviation Services, Nick Fadugba has been appointed to the interim board that would reposition South Africa Airways (SAA), the country’s floundering national carrier. The government of South Africa through the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) appointed Fadugba, Mr. Geoff Qhena, Mr. Peter Tshisevhe, Ms. June Crawford, Ms. Bembe Zwane and Prof. Edna van Harte, into an interim board to reposition SAA as the airline looks forward to a new beginning come 2021. The constitution of the interim six-member SAA board would see to the restructuring of the airline for profitability and professionalism.

Unions urged to accept offer after DPE agree to pay outstanding salaries to SAA employees Citizen reporter Picture: Neil McCartney The SAA employees has been given until Thursday, 17 December 2020, to accept the department’s full and final settlement offer. After Finance Minister Tito Mboweni announced a R10.5 billion bailout for SAA in October, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) has confirmed that it will pay three months outstanding salaries for June, July and August to South African Airways (SAA) employees. The SAA employees – who have not been paid for eight months as the airline has been in business rescue since December 2019 – has been given until Thursday, 17 December 2020, to accept the department’s full and final settlement offer.
