The Flintstones Sequel Series Bedrock Announced by Fox

Forget a reboot, the first family of the Stone Age is getting a full-on sequel. That s right, there is a brand new version of
The Flintstones on the way, and it ll show the classic family like never before. On Tuesday, Fox announced a new project called
Bedrock, which will take place 20 years after the original
Flintstones series. All of the characters you love from the classic cartoon will be back, but they definitely won t be the same.
In
Bedrock, Pebbles is a 20-something trying to forge her own path, while Flintstone patriarch Fred is on the verge of retirement. Elizabeth Banks will be voicing Pebbles in the new series, which Fox describes as a primetime animated adult comedy.
Bedrock an adult-oriented
Flintstones animated sequel series about a grown-up Pebbles (the young daughter of Fred and Wilma Flintstone). Elizabeth Banks, who is executive-producing the show, is also set to voice the main character. Lindsay Kerns (
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous) has been tapped to etch the pilot script into a cave wall.
The story is said to pick up 20 years later after the original Hanna-Barbera cartoon, which ran for nearly 200 episodes between the early to mid-1960s. As the uncultured Stone Age gives way to the more enlighted Bronze Age, Fred is on the verge of retirement at Mr. Slate s stone quarry and Pebbles is looking for a job of her own. Similar to the Croods, the residents of Bedrock will soon find that evolution can be harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club, reads the official synopsis.

Word has arrived by an exotic talking bird that Fox is developing a primetime animated adult comedy series with Elizabeth Banks (
Charlie Angels,
Hunger Games) star set to voice Pebbles Flintstone in addition to producing. Banks has been developing the project, titled
Bedrock, for several years with Warner Bros. Animation under her overall deal via her Brownstone Productions studio.
Bedrock will follow the Flintstone family two decades after the original, with Fred on the brink of retirement and 20-something Pebbles embarking on her own career. As the Stone Age gives way to a shiny and enlightened new Bronze Age, the residents of Bedrock will find this evolution harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club.
