Pop-up poetry event at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center

The North Columbia Schoolhouse presents Poetic Crossings, an evening of ridge poetic tradition in conjunction with the Sierra Poetry Festival, according to a press release.

May 4, 2021 This week, we hear from one of the co-editors of the first historically comprehensive Native poetry anthology – yes the very first. It’s called When The Light of The World Was Subdued, Our Songs Came Through: A Norton Anthology of Native Nations Poetry. It was edited by Poet Laureate Joy Harjo with Jennifer Elise Foerster and LeAnne Howe.  Organized by geographical region, each section begins with a poem from traditional oral literatures and closes with an emerging poet.
