As a mom of a military child, one of the most important factors in my relocation and retention decision is access to high-quality public schools for my son. Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex is one of those locations where my son can rise to his best, so I can rise to my best, free from concerns about the quality of his education.

Pike Road Schools honoring military families, allowing out of district enrollment April is military child appreciation month, Paul Sullivan Pike Road Schools is using the month of April to thank more than 160 students from military families for their sacrifice.  In addition to normal school zoning, Pike Road Schools (PRS) allows out of district enrollment for active duty families who live on Maxwell Air Force Base, said Rebecca Williams, PRS communications and federal programs coordinator. “We currently have eight military families - 10 students - taking advantage of the out of district enrollment,” she said.  April is set aside each year nationally as military child appreciation month, officially known as the Month of the Military Child. With its creation in the mid-1980s, the Pentagon and other military support organizations and agencies use the month to recognize military children for their sacrifice and bravery on the home front.

(WSFA) - Four River Region school districts were recognized by the Military Child Education Coalition Tuesday. Autauga County Schools, Elmore County Public Schools, Montgomery Public Schools and Pike Road Schools were awarded the Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence for their partnership with Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base. The Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence award focuses on highlighting partnerships between military bases and public education systems. “There’s over 350 installations in the US and we here in the River Region are one of 350 so it’s a big deal,” Commander and President of Air University Lt. Gen. James B. Hecker said.
