Pike Road Schools is using the month of April to thank more than 160 students from military families for their sacrifice.
In addition to normal school zoning, Pike Road Schools (PRS) allows out of district enrollment for active duty families who live on Maxwell Air Force Base, said Rebecca Williams, PRS communications and federal programs coordinator. “We currently have eight military families - 10 students - taking advantage of the out of district enrollment,” she said.
April is set aside each year nationally as military child appreciation month, officially known as the Month of the Military Child. With its creation in the mid-1980s, the Pentagon and other military support organizations and agencies use the month to recognize military children for their sacrifice and bravery on the home front.
