The burnt out BMW A GROUP of thieves thought to be behind a spate of catalytic converter thefts fled from police before setting their vehicle alight. The suspects abandoned their vehicle, a silver BMW saloon, on the A350 at East Knoyle shortly after 3.45am on Monday May 24 before setting it on fire. Police were responding to a call from a member of the public who reported a suspected catalytic converter theft taking place in Tisbury at about 2am, earlier that morning. Shortly afterwards, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description given as it drove through the Mere area. The BMW failed to stop and made off at speed, and was later abandoned and burnt out.
