Palm Springs area murals have something in common: Pete Salcido

Flat Black Art Supply owner Pete Salcido isn t just selling art supplies at Westfield Palm Desert. He s changing the aesthetic of Coachella Valley cities by commissioning public art pieces from renowned Southern California artists and bringing them to the desert. The 39-year-old is behind many of the well-known murals that have recently popped up in Palm Springs, including a pair by Los Angeles artist MisterAlek: one depicts inaugural poet Amanda Gorman at the downtown Art Pit, while another on North Palm Canyon Drive pays homage to George Floyd, a Black man who was murdered by a former Minneapolis police officer.
