COIMBATORE: A 52-year-old man was charred to death while returning home from a hospital in Coimbatore on Thursday night.
The man identified as Rangarajan was on his way to Thudupathi near Perundurai in Erode district along with his wife Jothimani and relative Raja in a car. He was sitting in the parked car while Jothimani and Raja stepped out to use a restroom.
The car suddenly caught fire and Rangarajan could not get out of it. He was charred to death.
The man met with the last month and was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Coimbatore city.

The Tiruppur District Police on Friday arrested a woman and her relative on charges of burning her husband alive inside a car near Perumanallur.
According to police, Rangaraj (62), a powerloom owner from Perundurai in Erode district, was discharged from a private hospital in Coimbatore on Thursday. He suffered an accident on March 15 and was unable to walk. His wife Jothimani (55) and relative Raja (41) put him in the car and the three headed for Perundurai on Thursday evening.

COIMBATORE: The Perumanallur police on Friday arrested a Perundurai resident for killing her 62-year-old husband to pocket insurance payout worth Rs 1.2 crore. The police also arrested a relative, who helped her carry out the murder.
The police identified the deceased as K Rangaraj of Thudupathi near Perundurai in Erode district.
“Rangaraj, a power loom owner, met with an accident on March 15, which left him paraplegic. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Peelamedu in Coimbatore. After he was discharged from the hospital on Thursday evening, his wife R Jothimani, 57, and his relative Raja, 41, carried him to a van and left for Thudupathi. Raja was behind the wheel,” a police officer said.

In a chilling crime in western Tamil Nadu, the police suspect a 55-year-old woman, along with her relative, set ablaze her husband, a senior citizen, inside a car to make it appear like an accident and claim his insurance money. The woman, Jothimani and her 41-year-old relative Raja have been arrested.
The crime happened on Thursday evening in Tiruppur district near Coimbatore. Police said the victim Rangaraj, 62, owned a power loom in neighbouring Erode. Following an accident last month, his ability to move around was restricted. On Thursday evening after he was discharged from a hospital in Coimbatore, his wife took him in a car driven by Raja. At night, Raja stopped the car on the road near Perumanallur in Tiruppur and alighted along with Jothimani. The two then allegedly poured fuel on the vehicle and set it ablaze with Rangaraj inside. He was charred to death.
