Private European collection.
This unusual half-length figure depicts the Almighty wearing a closed crown, his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing and the globe of the world held in his lowered left hand, emerging from a base modelled as perhaps a formalised bank of swirling clouds or probably more likely a stylised scaly serpent representing eternal life, albeit it now lacking its head and tail.
The back of the bronze is solid with no detailing and without traces of any elaborate attachments save for a central inset rectangular section. However whatever liturgical use the figure once had, it seems that this was subsequently simplified so that it was later on simply placed on a flat surface, perhaps as a private devotional piece.
Bonhams to Host Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Online Auction in June
Bonhams is to host an online auction on behalf of the Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme. The sale, which commences on Friday 4 June and runs until Monday 21 June, will feature 75 lots including top-class wines, lunches, dinners, accommodation, and tastings from members of the Guild. All proceeds will be invested in the Protégé Programme which supports young wine making talent and, in the process, the future of the wine industry in South Africa.
The wines and other lots have all been donated by CWG members and include collections from Protégés who, having graduated from the programme, are now running their own businesses and are keen to support those who come after them. The outstanding lot is made up of 43 bottles – a wine from each of the CWG 43 members – and includes several rarities.
Property from the collection Fahr-El Nissa Zeid s personal assistant, England
Gifted directly from the artist to the above owner, circa 1970 s ..During my first trip to the orient in Baghdad, I saw in the great expanses, the Bedouins. six or seven silhouettes that came from the depth of the horizon, as if flying over the sands.. They had on top of their heads a pyramid of pots of yoghurt, that looked from afar like very high chimneys . and their veils floated in this gold [hue] that was ablaze

Adila Laïdi-Hanieh, PhD.
This stunning work marks an important phase in Fahrelnissa Zeid s life and artistic output. As the wife of a member of the Hashemite royal family of Iraq, she visited the country for the first time in 1938, then in 1944. Her sojourns resulted in a prolific output of visual impressions, captured in sketchbooks held by her estate. The existence of this unique sketch from that period, and its availability for sale is a remarkable occurrence.
