the question is whether or not paul manafort, whether his lawyers do that. maybe not so smart because look what happened. the plea deal imploded, and now, he s going to get sentenced even more harshly than he would have, had he made no deal. bill: my question was not based on something that had been done illegally. if you re a lawyer, you want to gather as much information as possible. if i were rudy giuliani, i would speak with him and find out what questions robert mueller has. and that is entirely legitimate. it is almost mandatory. any good lawyer should do anything that he can that is ethical and legal to find out as much as possible about the case that is being built against his client. bill: you mention to the perjury trap, sir. do you think that all of these cases are based on that? i think a lot of them are. i think the weakness of mailers substantive findings are
in no way did he urge anyone to steal or hack the clinton campaign or john podesta s e-mails. no evidence of that. now jerome corsi flatly denies ever having contact with julian assange. in fact, he voluntarily handed over his computer and cell phone, access to e-mail and social media accounts in order to cooperate fully with a special counsel s investigation. that is how investigation inved access to the emails we just showed s you. now they are trying to get him to testalie, say what we want and we ll go easy on you.ha if not, he is 72 and he may spend the rest of his life in jail. this is what we describe as a perjury trap. ask corsi to work out details about the year s old that he obviously didn t remember. sadly, this is my advice to everyone i know. never talk to, in spite of your love of law enforcement,
done the same and the president sees this as a real attempt to come after him because mueller did, as he was leaving for a trip. the president knows mueller did this before he went to helsinki and this is a distraction. is that why he cancelled meeting with vladmir putin. did he feel that mueller was trying force his hand? the president doesn t seem to back down to those things even if they will be big negative publicity for him. i m not sure why he did that. what i do think will happen here in washington even though he s not here, his lawyers will remain on the attack against mueller. they thought that mueller may be laying a perjury trap for the president in recent weeks. they are skeptical of what the justice department is up to. this is probably only going to deteriorate that relationship. remember, mueller still wants to ask the president more questions. the president has not answered
of michael cohen s is here, and emily jane fox, vanity fair s senior reporter, inside the courtroom today, and tim o brien for bloomberg. take us through what you and your colleagues are reporting today about how someone who is cooperating extensively, someone who spent 70 hours helping and aiding the mueller probe end upped charged with a new crime today. yeah, a new crime today about these statements that came to congress. more interesting to us is what we tried to focus on. how did this line up with what the president said just two weeks ago? the president s lawyers think that mueller is trying to lay a perjury trap for the president. they were very, very nervous about that. so what happens today is they see cohen s plea and immediately they wonder and we were wondering, too, how does that match up with what the president said under oath? the president sending in written responses to mueller. this was one of the questions.
perjury trap you were speaking of mr. president all this time through your counsel, and it s a perjury trap. that plays to his ear quite well. the question for people looking forward is has the president welcomed this, has the president s team invited this, was it a two-way deal and does he expect to get a pardon. if he does, and this is not a unilateral one-way street and you have questions of obstruction of justice that comes into the picture, and is the president trying to influence or intimidate a witness that is known to be cooperating in a federal investigation, and if he is dangling a carrot that could be influence and that could be an additional problem. how distracting is all of this when the white house is attempting to do other work? it s it can be very distracting. in the administration i worked
