Seven ex-convicts detained for house, construction site break-ins

KEPALA BATAS: Police detained seven men, all of whom are former convicts, on suspicion of being involved in a series of house and construction site break-ins, in two separate raids in Butterworth and Mak Mandin last Thursday. Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said, acting on information and surveillance since last week, police initially detained five men at a house in Kampung Perlis, Butterworth, about 10 am before raiding another house in Kampung Baru, Mak Mandin, where they nabbed another two. “The gang’s modus operandi was to break into houses and construction sites between late night and early morning before stealing valuable items such as machines and expensive construction materials which are in high demand,” he said at a press conference here today.

BUTTERWORTH, Feb 21 (Bernama): Police denied acting aggressively, including deliberately handcuffing an Indonesian woman who was working at a dim sum restaurant in Jalan Raja Uda, here, in a special integrated operation on Wednesday. Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said that a video of alleged police misconduct against the 46-year-old woman went viral on social media yesterday, but in fact, the woman acted aggressively by shouting at the police when she was being apprehended. The Indonesian woman attempted to flee when a team of police conducted checks at the premises but was arrested some 100 metres away by a Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) enforcement officer. The woman showed some resistance including throwing the apron she was wearing at the cops.

He saw a fibre boat in the middle of the river and suspecting that his son had fallen (into the river), he lodged a police report at 1 pm today,“ Noorzainy said when contacted today.

The suspects were believed to have fled with the victim’s backpack containing a mobile phone, personal documents, watch, and cash.
