MIFFLINTOWN Laurie S. Hower has announced her candidacy for Juniata County treasurer on the Republican ticket.
Hower is a lifelong resident of Juniata County and the daughter of the late Jay H. Thompson and the late Erma P. Richardson of Port Royal. She has been married to Timothy Hower for almost 34 years and they have two grown children, Michael Hower of Mifflintown and Vanessa Harris of Halsey, Oregon. Hower calls herself a “proud grandma” to 3-year-old Ava and 1-month-old Ivy.
Hower has 18 years of banking experience at the First National Bank of Mifflintown (now Pennian Bank), where she served as computer operator, bookkeeper, teller, floating teller and assisted as accounting clerk and CD clerk as needed. While at the bank, she took several courses through the American Banking Association, including accounting principles.
