Lancaster Farming National Hemp Podcast tour hosts hosts kickoff event Monday

A home made of hemp was one of several educational displays featured Monday at a ceremony marking the start of a 25-state road trip by Lancaster Farming’s Industrial Hemp Podcast.  Innovative uses of this recently legalized crop like homebuilding are the kinds of things that weekly podcast host Eric Hurlock plans to highlight as he visits hemp-related sites across the country.  “Agriculture has to be one of the main solutions for mitigating climate change,” Hurlock told those gathered at Monday’s event at Penn State s Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Manheim. “We can’t get out of the mess we’re in without farmers. We’re in dire straits environmentally. Hemp doesn’t have to be the answer but I haven’t seen any other crop that can do what hemp can do.”

Watch: Lancaster-based hemp podcast host takes show across country to educate about hemp agriculture

A Lancaster-based hemp podcast that has attracted national attention will travel across 25 states starting this week to spread what its host says is an urgent message — industrial hemp can help heal environmental damage “Hemp gives farmers the chance to save the world,” said Industrial Hemp Podcast host Eric Hurlock, who produces the weekly show for Lancaster Farming, a publication of LNP Media Group, which also publishes LNP | LancasterOnline. “If we were to grow it in great enough mass, we can recreate the lungs of the world.” This message, and the fact that most people think of CBD and marijuana when hemp comes up, is what’s motivated Hurlock and his industrial hemp industry sponsors to hatch a plan to hit the road for six weeks, collecting and presenting information and stories about the wider applications of this crop.
