In a rare blow to federal prosecutors, a judge said Friday he would dismiss some counts
in a 2019 bribery indictment that implicated former Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown, though he seemed to give the feds room to revive the charges.
The feds have made no secret that they once targeted Brown in a years-long corruption probe. However, Brown has never been charged and denies wrongdoing. She left office last year. And while other cases resulting from the feds’ probe have been resolved, their case against Donald Donagher Jr. and Penn Credit Corp. has lingered.

While ministering in San Bernardino, California, in 2014, a Chicago-area priest named Joseph Jablonski told a boy something that prompted the bishop’s office there, when it found out, to notify the authorities and bar him from ever again ministering in that diocese.
The bishop’s office decided that Jablonski’s words deemed to be an attempt at “grooming” for a possible sexual encounter amounted to “sexual abuse,” according to records and interviews.
St. Johns County s clerk of court said the office cut ties with a debt collection company a few years ago after learning of a bribery investigation involving the company and its owner.
The statement came in response to a request for information from certain Florida clerks of court this month from Florida s Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis.
An indictment was filed in 2019 against Penn Credit Corporation and Donald Donagher Jr., who led the business during that time. The indictment says that Donagher and Penn Credit gave and offered to give gifts and services to several clerks of court, or people or groups affiliated with them, in an attempt to get favorable treatment for Penn Credit in the award, allocation and retention of debt collection work.
