PEOPLE who have complained about the brightness of Swindon s new LED streetlights have been reassured that help is on the way. But the facility that allows the council to dim the eco-friendly bulbs around the borough will only be operational once the £6.9m programme is complete. Householders in Penhill Drive and Kingsdown Road have spoken out about the glare given off at night - with one comparing them to the County Ground floodlights. Cabinet member for highways Maureen Penney told fellow councillors the lights can be dimmed or turned off – area to area or across the borough – once all 28,000 of them are in place.
