The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County held their regular business meeting Tuesday, April 20, 2021, in the Chesapeake Building in Leonardtown.
The Commissioners recognized important milestones and initiatives by presenting Proclamations for National Public Library Week, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, National Fair Housing Month, Administrative Professionals Month and National County Government Month.
At 9:15, the Commissioners held a Public Hearing to accept comment on the Department of Economic Development’s request for a Property Tax Incentive for Investing in Commercial Properties ordinance.
The Commissioners approved a request from the Sheriff’s Office to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the St. Mary’s County Health Department for the State Opioid Response Year 2 Supplemental Grant No-Cost-Extension for Jail-Based Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Re-entry grant, project US2107, for the revised amount of $387,419. On February 5, 2021, at approximately 3:30 p.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 21800 block of Ronald Drive in Lexington Park, for the reported shooting.
A juvenile victim was located and found to be suffering from a single gunshot wound to his leg.
The victim reported he was in the area of Midway Drive and Pegg Road, when a vehicle approached. An unknown male exited the vehicle and shot at him multiple times, ultimately striking the victim.
The victim was transported an area hospital for treatment.
Detectives and Crime Lab personnel from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and continued the investigation.
February 7, 2021
On Saturday, February 6, 2021, at approximately 11:35 p.m., police responded to the area of Pegg Road and Liberty Street in Lexington Park, for the report of gunshots.
A short time later, a 911 caller reported a gunshot victim in the 21800 block of Primrose Willow Lane in Lexington Park.
Crews arrived on the scene to find a 28-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the upper body. A helicopter was requested for his injuries.
Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 transported the patient to an area trauma center with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Police located evidence on Pegg Road between Pacific Drive and Liberty Street, and on Primrose Willow Lane. One vehicle was struck multiple times by gunfire.
