On Thursday, April 22, the board heard about six hours of arguments from those who object to the project. Once arguments finished, the board decided to extend the formal hearing to Thursday, April 29.

  Last week, I was transported to a dystopic chapter from our past. I witnessed big business and big government run roughshod over the interests of the people of the state of Colorado. I thought we learned our lesson. Historically, the mining industry has not been a good steward of our precious environment. to expand its gravel mining operation into bucolic northern Silverthorne. The application has been conditionally approved by the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Misguided state employees insisted they need extra hearing time to rebut the people opposing the mine. Are they mixed up? State employees are supposed to represent the interests of the people.

The project proposed by Peak Materials is a gravel mine north of Silverthorne. The Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board will consider the application for the Peak Ranch Resource Project at the upcoming hearing April 21-22 and will decide whether it will approve, approve with conditions or deny the application before it would move on to Summit County officials. The project has been adamantly opposed by residents in the area, and 58 participants attended the virtual pre-hearing conference.
