Rain drips steadily from the eaves as the afternoon winds down to dusk. The thermometer slides slowly down into the 40s. The house is warm enough, but I can feel the cold nibbling at the windowpanes. The firewood is all in the cellar; the snow tires.
Our Christmas was muted; New Year’s has been sterilized, driven online or canceled; and winter appears to be clamping down upon us at last. Time to batten the hatches, snuggle whenever possible, and try to get this house, designed and built for two.
