considering payroll tax cuts. despite denials from the white house all week and the ins insistence that the u.s. economy is doing great. there is wavering on the economic future of the country. we ll give you all of the numbers in a moment. but we have so much to cover for you this morning. let s begin with anna stewart. she is live in copenhagen with how president trump s abrupt cancellation is being received there. what is the news from copenhagen, anna? well, you can just imagine, alisyn, this morning the local press, they re really focusing on the reaction involving sort of the royal household. you have to understand the u.s. president was invited by her royal highness and he s abruptly canceled this trip on twitter. it s not going down particularly well. i would like to show you, actually, some of the reaction we re also getting from certain politicians. i m just in front of the danish parliament. we ve had, for instance, the
going to work unless donald trump says i want this, i am going to work for it. that s how you get wavering republican senators. that s how you get mitch mcconnell on board. so when he walks away from it, even a little bit, that basically dooms it. this morning we know that s not going to happen. i just think we need to mark this moment. to chris moment, one source in the middle of these discussions wrote with me overnight. dead, not going to happen. so it s over. expanding background checks is over. i will say i think it s possible, kaitlan. there s a tie between the background checks, greenland, and another major story which is the economy. the white house is now concerned about the economy. they admitted they re lying about it talking about payroll tax cuts. yeah. everything so again, the greenland thing might be trying to distract from serious concerns about the economy this morning. well, and a lot of things in the white house are pretty much everything in the white ho
right now in stuff that s just a head wind. and now they say they have been talking about payroll tax cuts. after they denied it. right. so they lied about that. and it s look. what we had heard was this was a great washington post scoop. and they got sort of kicked in the knees by the white house immediately. in fact, that story was true. as often happens. the president sends aides out to say something is false then he confirms it later on. it s not surprising that they are looking at what tools there are to try to juice the economy given the warning signs that they are seeing. most people around the president will say, you know, any sense of a panic or a scramble is overstated. but they certainly are looking at what they can do over the next 14 months. he knows and his advisers know just on sort of an elemental level, his re-election depends not entirely but in part on what the feelings are about the economy. and do we have any idea of when they got this idea to because
trump says he is considering payroll tax cuts despite denials from the white house all week and the administration s insistence that the u.s. economy is doing just great. this comes as brand new krrn polls out this morning show americans getting a bit jittery about the economy, and the president s approval number has also slipped a tad. joining us now is 2020 democratic candidate, former secretary hjulian castro. i want to get your reaction to the news as one capitol hill source told me, the effort to expand background checks is dead, not going to happen. the president has abandoned those efforts which before he called meaningful and common sense. my question to you, though, and i know you want to get elected president which you d be inaugurated in 2021, before then, next week, next month, what should democrats in congress push to achieve? well, they should continue to push as they have, passing
thinking about some payroll tax cuts but that it has nothing to do with peers or recession. he says the recession talk is fueled by the media. austan goolsbee was part of president obama s economic team and he will react, next. flonase sensimist is different. it relieves all your worst symptoms, including nasal congestion, which most pills don t. it s more complete allergy relief. and all from a gentle mist you can barely feel. flonase sensimist helps block six key inflammatory substances. most pills only block one. and six is greater than one. flonase sensimist.
