The Hawai‘i County Police Department announced the launch of an Unsolved Homicides site within its website: https://www.hawaiipolice.com/unsolved-homicides.
The department’s intention for this new website feature is to give justice to victims and their family, friends and community. The webpage currently features five cases dating from the early 2000s to the 1980s. Additional cases will added as more information becomes available.
People with information pertaining to unsolved homicides may anonymously submit tips on the website by clicking on the “Submit a Tip” button on the front page of the Department’s website. They can also email the Unsolved Homicides Division at unsolvedhomicides@hawaiicounty.gov or call Detective Morimoto at (808) 961-2380
The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaiʻi recognized South Hilo Patrol Officer Joshua Willing as 2020 Officer of the Year and Hawai‘i Fire Department Battalion Chief Keoki Brown as Firefighter of the Year in recent ceremonies.
Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, separate ceremonies were held in Hilo with Brown recognized at a ceremony at Haihai fire station on March 22, 2021 and Willing honored at a March 29, 2021 ceremony at the Hawai‘i Police Department training room.

Officer Willing, who has been with the department for five years, was honored for his efforts during the rescue of two minors who became stranded on a rock outcropping in Wailuku River above Boiling Pots during a flash flood in April 2020. While trying to prevent the parent of one of the children from jumping into the river after their child, Officer Willing was himself swept away and submerged under water. He and the parent were able to get back to
