Democracy it seems is on the decline and just last year sixty seven countries saw setbacks to their citizens Civil Liberties and political rights. The biggest threats to a democratic system are autocrats and populists. Populists insist they speak for the people. Only they say no what is truly right and wrong. They meet tricky questions with simple answers. When democracy is under threat citizens take to the streets Civil Society becomes active using preferably nonviolence as a form of resistance and that requires clear messages and strong symbols.
