Covid frustrates access to health services at landing sites

The Wakiso District Community Development Officer (DCDO) Mr John Kyejjusa has said residents living at landing sites are still the most affected group in the delivery of health services due to decrease in income caused by Covid-19 outbreak.
“The financial capacity of the people at landing sites to meet the required health services is still low. The Covid-19 outbreak affected everyone but the earning capacity of these people was grossly affected; they cannot even meet the small costs of the health services,” he said.

The project Coordinator Support Sustainable Fisheries Development project at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industries and Fisheries (MAAIF), Mr Alfred Akankwasa has said a Shs 500 million speed boat secured by government will help the ministry in the process of tackling the floating islands that resulted from increased water levels in Lake Victoria.
“We will move around the lake in identified hotspot areas especially Masaka, Mayuge and jinja areas where the islands come from, the ministry together with other government agencies are able to break the floating islands from their origin so that they don’t affect normal activities on the lake,” he said.

The police have received eight brand new bikes that will be used by the traffic officers to escort heads of state that will attend President Museveni’s sixth inauguration that will take place at Kololo independence grounds on May 12, 2021.
Over 4,000 guests, including 11 heads of state, have been invited to attend Mr Museveni’s inauguration ceremony as he embarks on another five-year term that will see him rule Uganda for four decades.
The technical person for Nile Fishing Company that imported the bikes, Mr Grace Kigenyi, while addressing journalists after handing over the new bikes to police said the Yamaha -FJR1300P-A –bikes will support the work of traffic officers on the said day.

The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Peace and Security Division (PSD) Director Mr Siraj Fegessa has said lack of democracy and poor governance have increasingly led to regional conflicts.
