wore. that is what is sparking this conversation and shaking people in this community and across the country launching this wider conversation about police officers in our communities and what this means for them. alexandra if i could just follow, is there anything that police officers and the mayor are going to do to repair this rift here? it is certainly a rift. it is one that we have seen not only coming to a head right now as the patrolmen s union speaks out, as you hear things from former governor pataki talking about what has happened in the city this rift that we have seen growing between the mayor and the police. but right now people seem to want to focus at least on the victims of this, the two officers that were killed. the mayor did not address any of this when he came to the hospital. he spoke in a press conference last night. he talked about this being an assassination of two officers, the loss two of good men, not responding to any of the denunciation that s have been
that people have suggested in these situations, even when you have it, it doesn t solve everything. for example, i ve heard so much about the lack of diversity in ferguson, if only there was more diversity in the police department. if you watch that garner video closely, you ll see that there s a black female nypd sergeant right there, at that scene. we haven t heard anything about what she s doing. because if she had told those patrolmen there s going to be no arrests, there would have been no arrests. so you know, you have diversity, in that sense, that you have, you know, minority representative as a police, not just one of the officers going along with the program, but a sergeant. the highest-ranking officer there. the other aspect is that not much has been talked about selection, police departments have to do a better due diligence on the front end, you see the police union, you see the effort. if you get bad apples, it s very difficult to eliminate them from
securing this border. and we know how to do that. that s one of the things i shared with the president yesterday is we ll certainly work with his folks. show them how to do that. but they have to be willing to. there has to be that will to secure the border and put those national guard troops in place and move everyone forward, if you will. as you know, right across the way here, where we re on the river, the border patrol all too often and by the way, the border patrolmen and women are doing an incredible job. these are hard working men and women. you knew them all by name. they re just good people that want to be up here making a difference but philosophically the administration has historically had them back 40 to 50 miles in the aprehengs business. well, i m interested in the prevention business. we ought to be stopping people from crossing that border and

the vehicle hit frankie, then fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. frankie pullian worked for a local funeral home as a handyman. before that, he served a brief stint in the u.s. military. he would run errands for the funeral home, and the funeral home was also kind of a stopping off point for the police as well. and it was one of the more successful black funeral homes in paterson. police discovered that the hit-and-run vehicle had been stolen a month earlier. the owner was a retired policeman who lived nearby who had an alibi for the night before. he was an elderly gentleman. there was no way that anyone would even, in their wildest dreams or imagination, suspect that he was involved in this. to approximate the time of the accident, paterson police checked patrolmen s records for the night before and found an important clue.
