Classroom, the best choice for students - Barbados Today

Classroom, the best choice for students Article by May 26, 2021 The Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors is fully in agreement with students returning to the classroom. President of the association Dr Patricia Welch firmly believes that even as the country continues to battle COVID-19, it is vital that students are allowed to interact with their teachers and friends in a face-to-face setting. Her comments follow an eventful return to face-to-face classes. At least three schools have been closed because of positive COVID-19 cases among students. Since the resumption of physical classes on May 2, the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Ellerslie Secondary and most recently Vauxhall Primary, have all been forced to temporarily close their doors.

Virtual schools national career showcase all set for Wednesday

May 24, 2021 Over 3000 third-form students are expected to participate in the Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors’ first ever virtual National Career Showcase. The two-day annual showcase is being held online from May 26 – 27 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. President of the association, Dr Patricia Welch told Barbados TODAY this year’s event, which is in its 14th year, had to be scaled down because of the limitations of hosting it online. She said while the showcase was usually open from third to sixth formers, those large numbers could not be facilitated in the virtual format. Dr Welch revealed that students from 23 secondary schools and two private schools were expected to attend the showcase.
