The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it will look into Indian Medical Association (IMA) president Dr RV Asokan’s statement where he termed the oral observations made by the apex court during Patanjali misleading advertisements case against allopathy practitioners as ‘unfortunate’ and ‘very vague and general statement which has demoralised the doctors.”
Ramdev News: Dr. R V Asokan, president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), criticized Baba Ramdev for claiming he could cure COVID-19 and disparaging modern medicine as "stupid and bankrupt." Asokan stated that Ramdev s statements led people to believe him due to his high profile, which was unfortunate. The IMA s comments come ahead of a Supreme Court hearing regarding Ramdev s misleading advertisements. Asokan expressed disappointment with the court s criticism of the IMA and private doctors, saying it demoralized them.
The Court had earlier told the association to put its house in order and address unethical practices in modern medicine and hospitals like prescribing expensive medicines which are unnecessary.
The Court said that the Licensing Authority chose to act against Patanjali's misleading advertisements only after the top court passed strictures and made strong observations in that regard.
