Coun McCaw gagged by council after outburst against two councillors

Article content Coun. Kelly McCaw attempted to censure Coun(s). Chris Malette and Paul Carr for their public criticisms on media and social media of an ad hoc committee to select a candidate for an empty seat on council. But part way through her public reprimand on a point of privilege during a ZOOM online council meeting, McCaw was stopped dead in her tracks by Carr on a point of order. McCaw gagged by council after outburst against two councillors Back to video Carr argued that McCaw was out of order and, citing municipal rules governing council procedure, asked Mayor Mitch Panciuk that her rebuke be shut down given that the matters she referred to were outside of the realm of discussion on hand by council.

A straightforward start

Article content A new year with both old and new problems, not least; the mayhem ensuing over replacing the late Pat Culhane on Belleville council. Imagine breaking into tears following traumas and asking for support while thanking the doctor for referral and then… nothing. Yes, tough gals cry; tender being our most human side. But, with Pat’s prior encouragements and the promise of private guidance, I’ll wade in.

Former Mayor: Belleville council did the wrong thing

File Photo: Ross McDougall (right) with Lorne Brooker at CJBQ Radio. A former mayor of Belleville minced no words when it came to expressing his opinion on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show today (Monday). Ross McDougall disagreed vehemently with  highly controversial decision By Mayor Panciuk to organize an ad-hoc committee to recommend a person to fill the late councillor Pat Culhane’s seat. McDougall said council should have simply appointed the person who finished just out of the running in the last local election, Tyler Allsopp. “I don’t think you should appoint Tyler or the next in line because of tradition. I think what it shows is that the tradition actually makes sense and you should do it because it makes sense and because the electors voted for Tyler.”
