A slew of promises aimed at impressing women voters
Hoping to win the Assembly polls for the third consecutive term, the AIADMK in its election manifesto released on Sunday evening promised among other things, Amma Washing Machine for all, waiving of educational loans, Amma Banking Card, MGR Green Auto and Amma Housing Scheme . It also said it would urge the Centre to reduce the fuel prices considerably.
Palaniswami on Tuesday unveiled the portraits of freedom fighters V O Chidambaram, P Subbarayan and Omandur Ramasamy Reddiyar in the state Assembly. Hailed as Kappalottiya Tamizhan (The Tamil Helmsman), Chidambaram, popularly known by his initials VOC, was a freedom fighter and barrister from Ottapidaram in Tuticorin. He had launched the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company in 1906 to counter the monopoly of the British. Paramasivan Subbarayan was also a freedom fighter and diplomat. He was the Chief Minister of Madras Presidency. Ramasamy Reddiyar was also Premier of the Madras Presidency. Last year, the chief minister had announced that portraits of the three leaders would be unveiled in the assembly to honour their yeoman services to the nation.

BJP chief Nadda affirms party s alliance with AIADMK for Tamil Nadu
BJP national president J P Nadda on Saturday said his party s alliance with the AIADMK would continue for the assembly elections, due in Tamil Nadu in a few months. Both parties would face the polls together, he said, addressing a public meeting, his first in the run up to the Assembly elections expected in April or early May. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi facilitated projects like the defence corridor for Tamil Nadu while the state was ignored during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance regime.
Praising Tamil as the world s oldest language, Nadda, who is here on a one day visit, said when the right person assumed the right place, it led to right decisions. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed the top office, a safe destiny was assured for the nation and Tamil Nadu as well, he said.
