Importance of nature and culture-based solutions for biodiversity conservation discussed on International Day of Biological Diversity

May 25, 2021 Director of IASST Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee stressed that biodiversity gives the answer to several sustainable development challenges, and we should give our best efforts to save and conserve the biodiversity from extinction. He was speaking on the International Day of Biological Diversity at the online programme organised as part of the celebrations of the 75th year of India’s independence: Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava on May 22, 2021. He also mentioned that Bio-Diversity & Eco-System is one of the thrust areas of research at IASST and highlighted the different biodiversity-related ongoing research projects in this institute. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal lays foundation Swahid Smarak (martyrs’ memorial) in Guwahati. (PTI) GUWAHATI: Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday offered ‘bhumi pujan’ to mark the inauguration of construction work of a ‘Swahid Smarak’ and a ‘Swahid Udyan’ in the memory of the agitators killed in six-year-long Assam agitation. The martyrs’ memorial and the garden will be constructed in an area spanning more than 98 bighas at Paschim Boragaon in Guwahati. Later, Sonowal, along with several cabinet colleagues, offered tributes to the martyrs on the occasion while taking part in a state-level Swahid Divas programme organised by the Assam Accord Implementation Department at its office premises at Khanapara here. The CM also released the first volume of the four-part ‘Tathyakosh’ (Data Book) on the anti-foreigners movement.
