While the leaders of the ruling military junta in Sudan pledge that the military will withdraw from the political arena once a new civilian-let government has been formed, popular resistance demonstrations continue unabated. It has also been met by brutal suppression by security forces.
The conflict in Blue Nile state flared up again on October 13, leaving at least 13 people dead and 24 injured after a land dispute in Wad El Mahi locality, the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) published in a flash update on the conflict yesterday. Intercommunal violence in the area saw at least 162 people killed since July.
Deputy Chairman of Sudan's Sovereignty Council Mohamed Hamdan 'Hemeti' Dagalo praises the release nine Misseriya herdsmen held captive by the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) under the leadership of Abdelaziz El Hilu since April. The release was mediated by President of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The Sudan Bar Association (SBA) has further explained the vision of their proposed draft constitution with regards to military reform in a symposium in Khartoum on Saturday, after criticism. They propose limiting military powers much more than stipulated in the 2019 Constitutional Document.
