A delegation from the Darfur Bar Association, Emergency Lawyers, and partners visited El Huda Prison in Omdurman on Wednesday afternoon, to speak to detainees from El Geneina in Darfur.
The reconciliation agreements brokered in Darfur by Deputy-Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the infamous Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed ‘Hemeti’ Dagalo, are “superficial, do not represent the interests of the people, and will not to real stability in Darfur,” asserts a leader of the Communist Party of Sudan, member of the Darfur Bar Association, and human rights lawyer Saleh Mahmoud.
The number of sit-ins demanding the overthrow of the military coup regime expanded widely in Khartoum and its twin cities. Activists began a sit-in at El Rousi station in Omdurman’s El Fitihab area yesterday, bringing the number of sit-ins in the capital to six. Other Sudanese cities are following swiftly.
According to the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCSD) nine protesters were killed in the June 30 Marches of the Millions in the Sudanese capital. Many others were wounded. On Friday, protests continued. For today, the Central Khartoum Resistance Committees called for new demonstrations. During the past few days, hundreds of activists have been detained in the country. In statements yesterday, the UN OHCHR, the EU, USAID, and the US Embassy in Khartoum expressed their indignation to the excessive violence against protesters.
