The religious leaders chanted prayers in various languages. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the New Parliament Building in Parliament House Complex today. Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan Tata, Union Minister HS Puri, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh and various religious leaders were also present at the event which took place with certain rituals.

A ‘sarva dharma prarthana’ (inter-faith prayer) will be held at 1.30 pm. The prime minister will deliver his address on the occasion at 2.15 pm. The new Parliament building will cost Rs 971 crore and is estimated to be completed by 2022. The function will be attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, Hardeep S. Puri, Harivansh Narayan Singh. The new building is an intrinsic part of the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and will be a landmark opportunity to build peoples’ Parliament for the first time after independence, one which will match the needs and aspirations of ‘New India’ in the 75th anniversary of independence in 2022.
