Originally issued for $35 million in 2005 to fund upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant, the bonds were refinanced in 2015 to lower the interest rate from 4.23 percent to 2.6 percent. With interest rates even lower now due in part to the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the PUB can refinance again at an interest rate of 0.8 percent.

Editor s top picks of the week | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 22, 2021 For many Mid-Ohio Valley residents, last week may have felt like the turning of many pages, as students returns to schools, larger numbers of residents began the vaccination process, and both a presidential and gubernatorial inauguration celebrated our democracy and the peaceful transition of power. Ahead of his second inauguration Friday, Gov. Jim Justice Thursday applauded state Board of Education members for standing their ground against two teachers’ unions that filed lawsuits to block the mandate for in-person school. “I am really happy our schools have reopened for in-person learning. PUB approves online auction of vehicles | News, Sports, Jobs

ebevins@newsandsentinel.com PARKERSBURG The Parkersburg Utility Board on Tuesday voted to authorize the auction of two vehicles online, a format the utility’s manager said recently yielded positive results. According to a memo provided to board members, the PUB recently sold 11 pieces of surplus equipment via the website GovDeals.com for a little more than $50,000 in its first online auction. “That’s better than we had previously done (with) on-site auctions,” PUB Manager Eric Bennett said. The bulk of that revenue came from the sale of two backhoes for about $32,000 combined, he said. Mayor Tom Joyce, the board’s chairman, said the city has found success with online auctions too. Attendance at an in-person auction could be negatively impacted by weather or simultaneous events, he said.
