JOHOR BARU, May 19 The Johor state government should immediately obtain additional Covid-19 vaccines from the federal government to meet the urgent demand for 2.9 million doses in the state, said Johor Opposition leader Aminolhuda Hassan.
He said Johor can emulate the steps taken by the Sarawak and Selangor state governments which intend to procure the vaccines on their own instead of fully depending on the federal government.
PONTIAN: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has thwarted an attempt by two men to smuggle syabu out of the country.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said the men, aged 32 and 35, were spotted on a wooden boat about 0.5 nautical miles south of Tanjung Piai here at 8.20pm on Sunday (May 2).
Their suspicious movements prompted the MMEA patrol unit to approach for an inspection, he said.
“We found a white package stashed in the boat, containing 1kg of what we believe is syabu.
“The street value of the drugs is about RM55,000, ” he said on Monday (May 3), adding that the suspects have been remanded for seven days for investigations under Section 39(b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
