weapons away from his son but didn t. switching topics, many republican candidates are hoping to capitalize on the trump tax cuts in the 2018 midterm elections. the plan was hailed as a tax cut for the middle class but there might be complications with that strategy. a new congressional report from the joint committee on taxation shows the wealthiest americans will benefit from the tax cuts in 2018, thanks to a deduction for owners of pass-through businesses. pass-throughs are basically businesses that aren t corporations, they include sole s-corporations, called pass-throughs because the income passes through to the owner s individual tax returns. the lion s share of the benefit, 17.4 billion, 44.3% of the total, will go to roughly 200,000 americans making $1 million or more who claim the pass-through deduction. to break it down for us, joining me is the author of that piece, nbc news national political reporter jonathan allen.
